ER Visit
Orin was his normal happy self all day yesterday until about eight he just wanted to be held. So I put him to bed but he felt hot so we gave him Advil for a slight fever. Then about two he woke up with a fever and was sounding a little hoarse so gave him more medicine and he went back to sleep at five he sounded awful wheezing and breathing hard but he was still sleeping and the instacare opens at 8. So we decided we would take him in. At seven he woke up happy and wanted to chase kitty but he sounded awful with every breath. So we took him to the instacare and they said he had croup so gave him some medicine and had a medicated cool mist on him for about half hour but he wasn't getting better actually worse. So they transferred us to the ER. Orin usually takes doctors visits really well but not today they put a pulse monitor on his foot and he hated it the whole time he tried to pull it off. They told us we were going to be there for 3-6 hours so they could watch him. It was scary to see my baby in the hospital. He finally fell asleep while we put the cool mist for him to breath in. That is what the pictures are of. They did an X-ray of his chest and said he had croup no pneuma so we were able to go home a little after one. It was a long day for us all. Orin is now sounding better and happy again:)

Oh, so awful!!! Sick kids are never fun. I had no idea croup developed so quickly. Glad he's doing better:)

ReplyDeleteCroup is scary! 3 of my kids got it fairly often when they were young. They do usually outgrow it though. The best thing we found over multiple episodes and some ER visits was to take the baby in the bathroom and turn the shower on all the way hot water. Then close the door and just let the steam build up and let them breathe it in. It works everytime. We would usually turn the light off and just hold them in there until they fell asleep. Eventually the hot water would run out and then we would just turn it off and just keep the steam in for as long as possible.
